brad bolton > Steve Fugate is walking the perimeter of the USA. He's been at it 7000 miles and 18 months now. He has a message for all, and you're looking at it. Google "steve fugate" to learn more. I took these photos on rte. 44 south of Chardon August 11, 2004.
brad bolton > His cart carries tent, sleeping bag, clothes, food, water. He can survive for many days on what's in his cart.
brad bolton > Off he goes to Maine, then Florida, where he started.
brad bolton > His gait appears a bit labored. Mine would be, too, if I pulled a cart for 7000 miles.
brad bolton > Steve was stopped by the police just before I met him because he looked suspicious. It took him awhile to convince them he meant no harm. Here he is waving at the police car that stopped him.
brad bolton > Steve is a bona fide character, a mix of Forrest Gump, evangelist, and friendly neighbor. He promotes no religion, or other ideology, other than to love life. His son's suicide was the cue for Steve to get the message out. I'll never forget him.
brad bolton > This guy was in the news as he passed through the area. He was diagnosed with lymphoma last year, and as a result, decided to travel the country. He has a history with horses, being from Montana. So he built this wagon, outfitted it with 2 dogs, 2 horses, and $75, and headed east. After he reaches Maine, he'll turn back to the west coast. Then on to Alaska.
brad bolton > I kinda spooked the horses as I ran up to the wagon, but the man acted like it happened all the time. I really wanted to meet this man after I heard about him on the radio, but did not have the time to chase him down. I was ecstatic when I saw the back of his wagon on the way to my gig in Garrettsville. I pulled off the road and ran back to meet him. I met him on route 88 at the turnpike overpass, a couple miles south of Garrettsville.
brad bolton > Took this photo as I started to pass him.
